Nearly 200 jobs saved at Just for Pets through rescue deal

Nearly 200 jobs have been saved following a takeover of the collapsed Just for Pets chain.

It was announced in September that the 25 strong store group would go into administration.

Following the appointment of Ben Barrett and John Carpenter of Dow Schofield Watts Business Recovery as joint administrators, the company has been sold to PSR Trading, a sister company of established pet supplies business Pedigree Wholesale.

Some 18 stores will continue to operate although seven stores could not be saved and were closed by the administrators on appointment.

Carpenter said: “We are delighted to have secured the future of this long established retail business and wish the PSR Trading team every success for the future. The Just For Pets business is strongly focused on customer service and animal welfare and its directors and management have worked alongside us to ensure continuity of the business and a positive outcome for the majority of its employees and other stakeholders.”

The 18 stores that will continue to operate are in Bristol, Bromsgrove, Cambourne, Cambridge, Coventry, Droitwich, Evesham, Kidderminster, Long Eaton, Malvern, Maypole, Northfield, Nuneaton, Stourbridge, Swadlincote, Telford, Wolverhampton and Worcester.

Steve Brown, managing director of Pedigree Wholesale, said: “To ensure our core wholesale business remains committed and focused on supporting our existing customers we’ve created a brand-new company, PSR Trading Limited which will be dedicated to operating Just for Pets.

“We are confident that the addition of Just for Pets to the Pedigree Wholesale business creates the opportunity to development of our product range and through even greater economy of scale and buying power we can achieve cost savings which we believe will also benefit all wholesale customers.”
