N Brown sales still down
Catalogue retailer to extend autumn ranges
July 2 203
Mail order retailer N Brown has said trading conditions remain challenging as it reported a 2 per cent rise in turnover in the first 17 weeks of the current year.
The UK-based grouo said ladieswear and electrical goods were performing well, but sales of menswear and footwear ranges is still disappointing.
Its expanded Autumn catalogues will feature extended ranges of ladieswear, mens clothing, footwear and home and leisure products, supported by a marketing campaign to drive new customer recruitment.
Mail order sales in the UK through traditional catalogues have been in the doldrums for some time, hit by the growth of internet retailing as well as the rise of discounters such as Matalan. The mail order sector is waiting for the next move by Littlewoods owners the Barclay brothers following their acquisition of the rival GUS business.
N Brown said: “Trading conditions remain challenging but, after a slow start, we are satisfied that the group is making progress in line with expectations for the year.”
The company has also appointed Mike Bullas as an executive director. Bullas recently joined the business as Merchandise Director, having previously been trading director of Peacock Group.
