Mulberry bags strong sales
Accessories driving fashion brand
Mulberry is seeing the benefits of its shift in focus from clothing to accessories, reporting strong sales driven by demand for handbags.
The fashion brand said its results for the full year to March 31 are likely to exceed current market expectations, with its spring 2005 order book for accessories alone exceeding the total spring order book last year by more than 55 per cent.
Like-for-like sales in Mulberry’s full price UK shops for the first 11 weeks of the spring 2005 season, to April 2, are up by 50 per cent, well ahead of the 15 per cent growth seen in the run-up to Christmas.
Godfrey Davis, chairman and chief executive, said: “Accelerating sales have outstripped expectations. The outlook is very positive, with strong demand for Mulberry handbags from all markets.”
