M&S to open 60,000 square foot store at Giltbrook Retail Park
Marks & Spencer has confirmed plans to open a 60,000 square foot food and clothing store at Nottingham’s Giltbrook Retail Park next summer.
The news comes less than two weeks before M&S opens a new clothing store in Cornwall.
The retailer is the process of reshaping its store estate as part of plans to give customers “the best shopping experience”. It is working to grow online clothing sales to a third of total sales, but this aim will be supported by its network of over 1,000 stores where 70% of online orders are currently collected.
Sacha Berendji, retail, operations and property director at M&S said: “Customers’ shopping habits are changing and so it’s important we change to reflect the way they want to shop – seamlessly integrating our in-store and online experiences. Excitingly, in Nottingham reshaping our store estate means opening a big new store next summer that can best serve our customer needs, alongside our high street shop. Stores remain fundamental to how we serve customers and we can’t wait to open in this great location.”
Up to 150 new and existing M&S staff will work at the Nottingham store with recruitment beginning in the spring of 2020.
The shop is being designed to appeal to M&S’s target market of busy families. The retailer said it will benefit from the extensive free parking at British Land owned Giltbrook and the mix of store and leisure facilities on offer.
The store will stock a wide range of food products with an emphasis on fresh produce. Meanwhile, the clothing area of the store will stock fashion items across all categories and will feature an easily accessible click and collect point.
