M&S to invest over £50 million in new and improved stores in north west
M&S is to invest over £50 million in new and improved shops in the north west of England as part of its ongoing store renewal and rotation programme.
The move will create around 300 jobs.
The retailer announced back in November that its store rotation programme was picking up pace as it looks to ensure it has the right stores in the right places as part of its transformation plan.
This latest investment will include some shop being renewed to the latest format and five new stores launching in new locations.
Never Miss a Retail Update! The first store, a revamped M&S store at Warrington’s Gemini Retail Park, reopened last week with a new clothing, home and beauty department. In addition, M&S is planning to launch new shops in Formby, Thornton-Cleveleys, Warrington, Blackburn and Bolton.
Meanwhile, its New Mersey Retail Park store in Speke is to move sites and be transformed from a food hall to a full-line store.
Will Smith, property director at M&S, said: “As we reshape for growth, we want to open new stores we can be proud of and that deliver the best possible shopping experience for customers.
“Our pipeline of stores for 2025 demonstrates our continued investment in market-leading stores as we deliver our transformation priorities.
“We have the opportunity in the north west of England to continue investing in market-leading stores, as part of our renewal and rotation strategy, offering great quality products with that touch of M&S magic and the trusted value our customers expect and deserve.”
M&S has 62 owned stores across north west England as well as 25 M&S stores in hospitals and travel settings, including rail and fuel stations.
