M&S rebuffed by Next executive
Search continues for clothing boss
March 1 2004
Marks & Spencer has been sent back to the drawing board once again as it searches for a new head of clothing.
The latest high profile retail name linked with the post, Next group product director Christos Angelides, has turned down an approach from M&S.
Next told news agency Reuters that Angelides, a main board director, was approached about a month ago but said he was not interested in the post.
Angelides joins a growing club of retailers linked to the M&S post, made vacant by David Norgrove. M&S has seen clothing sales slip over the second half of last year, and believes a high profile retail name is needed to revitalise its offer.
New Look chief executive Stephen Sunnucks has also turned down an overture from M&S, while Belinda Earl, the former Debenhams chief executive has also been linked to the post.
