M&S completes new Westfield Stratford City store
Marks & Spencer has announced the completion of its new store at Westfield Stratford City.
Covering 136,000 sq ft of selling space, the new store is the retailer’s
third biggest behind Marble Arch and Bluewater and is 30% bigger than its store in Westfield, White City.
M&S said it will be its first store to feature a new in-store navigation scheme as well as a unique look and feel for all M&S clothing sub-brands. There will also be upgrades to food fixtures to better showcase the quality and freshness of products.
The store will be the most operationally carbon efficient M&S store to date, in line with the retailer’s Plan A strategy. It will have a variety of environmentally friendly features including a green living roof to provide natural insulation and encourage biodiversity, as well as a hydrocarbon refrigeration scheme.
100% of the store’s heating and hot water and 99.5% of cooling will be provided by Westfield Stratford’s own power plant (CCHP – combined cooling, heat and power), which M&S said is more efficient than using conventional supplies.
The new store will be managed by Lee Boon who was previously manager of the London Colney store. The shop will employ 550 people.
