M&S appoints Sacha Berendji as retail, operations and property director

Marks & Spencer has appointed Sacha Berendji to the new position of retail, operations and property director.

Currently retail director at the company, Berendji will have overall responsibility for M&S’s £3 billion property portfolio in his new position.

Prior to his current role, Berendji spent more than twenty years working in retail and property at M&S after initially joining as a graduate trainee in 1994.

M&S said it has brought together its retail and property functions to make its UK store estate management more aligned with its commercial retail team.

Berendji will take up his new role on 1 April.

Steve Rowe, M&S chief executive, said: “Given the focus we have on improving and rationalising our UK store estate, it makes sense to bring these two teams together. Sacha has a wealth of relevant retail and property experience which, combined with his strong bias for action, will help transform our shops to meet customers’ changing shopping habits.”
