Mothercare’s Mark Newton-Jones to join IKEA parent company board
IKEA has announced that Mothercare chief executive Mark Newton-Jones has been proposed as a new board member for INGKA Holding B.V. Supervisory Board, the parent company of IKEA Group.
Newton-Jones has headed up Mothercare since 2014 and prior to that was chief executive of Shop Direct Group. Earlier in his career, he held various senior executive roles at Next.
Jon Abrahamsson, president and chief executive of Plantasjen, has also been proposed.
If their proposals are successful, the new board members will be formally voted in during IKEA’s annual meeting in November.
Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, chairman of the INGKA Holding B.V. Supervisory Board, said: “With their customer focused and solid background in retail, both from logistics and digital development, Jon and Mark will bring additional contribution of experiences to the board, which will further enable us to develop our offering as a multichannel retailer for the many people.”
