Mothercare total group sales drop 1.2%
Mother and baby products retailer Mothercare has reported a 1.2% fall in its third quarter total group sales.
Worldwide network sales were up 3% in the twelve weeks to 1 January, as a result of continuing strong growth in the group’s profitable international business.
International retail sales rose 15% as the group opened its 1,000th store outside the UK and also launched in Chile, Colombia, Iraq and Morocco.
UK like-for-like sales were down 3% in the period, with total UK sales down 6.9% mainly due to planned store closures. However, like-for-like sales increased by 5% in December due to increased promotional activity.
Alan Parker, Maothercare executive chairman said the group’s seach for a new chief executive and the structural and operational review of the UK business were both progressing well and woud be completed in the current quarter.
