Mothercare gives update on franchise moves

Mothercare has said it has now completed the contractual arrangements for the appointment of Boots as its UK and Republic of Ireland franchise partner.

The move will enable the retailer to have its branded clothing, home and travel products sold in Boots stores from this autumn as well as online on the Boots website.

In addition, Mothercare has entered into a new twenty-year franchise agreement with its longstanding franchise partner  Alshaya Group.

Mothercare has also announced the launch of what it described as a more sustainable and less capital-intensive business model for its commercial relationships with international franchise and manufacturing partners. This will include its franchise partners beginning to pay manufacturers directly for products.

The retailer said: “We believe this new way of working will ultimately have the added benefits of improving pricing for franchise partners, which in turn should better incentivise retail sales growth and assist our manufacturing partners in reinstating credit insurance for future seasons.”
