Mothercare appoints Alan Parker as chairman
Mothercare has appointed Alan Parker CBE as its non-executive chairman. Parker will take over from Ian Peacock who will be stepping down from the role of chairman after nine years.
Parker will join Mothercare on 15 August while Peacock will remain on the Board as a non-executive director until the end of October.
As the chief executive of Whitbread from 2004 to 2010, Parker
led a substantial increase in shareholder value and also developed the Costa coffee brand. Prior to joining Whitbread in 1992, Parker was managing director Europe, Middle East and Africa at Holiday Inn. He is now a non-executive director of Kesa Electrical, Jumeirah International and Justice Holdings, and is also President of the British Hospitality Association.
Commenting on the appointment Ian Peacock said: “After nine years on the Board, and with Mothercare in its 50th anniversary year, I feel the time is right to move on and hand over to a new Chairman who will help
steer Mothercare through its next phase. I am very pleased that Alan
will be taking on the role and wish him, the Board and the management team every success.”

Parker’s appointment will be subject to ratification by shareholders at the
company’s next Annual General Meeting in July 2012.
