Morrisons to buy two further ex-Netto stores from Asda
Morrisons has announced that it will purchase a further two former Netto stores from Asda.
The supermarket will buy the Worsley and Dunstable stores. These are in addition to the 16 former Netto stores that Morrisons bought from Asda in January.
The stores form part of the 47 outlets that the Office of Fair Trading requested that Asda sell when the retailer gained approval to buy the Netto chain for £778m. Asda is investing £100 million in converting the Netto stores to its own format.
Mark Harrison, Retail Director of Morrisons, said: “These additional stores are an important next step in Morrisons’ growth. We are building on our strategy to bring Morrisons’ unique offer of freshly prepared, affordable food to more people in Britain.”
He added: “We look forward to welcoming the new colleagues employed at the Netto stores as they transfer to Morrisons under TUPE regulations.”
The conversion to the Morrisons format is expected to take three months.
