Morrisons heads off non-exec row
Three appointments for supermarket group
Morrisons has moved to head off a boardroom crisis after a meeting of its senior directors agreed the appointment of three non-executive directors.
Chiarman Sir Ken Morrison and non-executive deputy David Jones, widely reported to be at odds over non-exec appointments, as well as chief executive Bob Stott, have agreed the appointment of three non-executive directors effective from July 1. They are:
Brian Flanagan, who worked for Mars Corporation for 26 years, holding senior management positions in finance, information systems, manufacturing, and purchasing;
Susan Murray, former chief executive of Littlewoods Stores, and currently chief executive of the Advertising Standards Authority. She is also a non-executive director of SSL International, Enterprise Inns, and Imperial Tobacco;
Nigel Robertson, who held senior positions in the food division of Marks & Spencer and played a central role in establishing online grocer Ocado in partnership with Waitrose. He is a co-owner of Early Learning Centre.
In addition, Richard Pennycook already annonced as group finance director, will join the company on October 1.
Morrisons added that “the chairman and deputy chairman will together be interviewing further candidates for non-executive directorships and it is anticipated that a further announcement will be made within the next four weeks.”
