Morrisons acquires former Jessops stores for expansion
Morrisons has bought seven of the former Jessops stores as it looks to expand its convenience chain.
The supermarket has acquired the stores from the administrators following the camera chain’s collapse last month. Four of the stores are in London, with a further two elsewhere in England and one Scotland.
Morrisons will use the stores to expand its M-Local convenience business. It has also been reported that the supermarket is in talks to buy sites from other failed retailers including Blockbuster and HMV which also fell into administration last month.
The supermarket, which reported a 2.5% drop in like-for-like sales over the Christmas trading period, plans to speed up the opening of its M-Local shops by launching 70 new outlets by the end of 2013.
