More rumours at M & S

Marks and Spencer’s head of womenswear, Kate Bostock, is the subject of departure rumours.

M&S has less than 10 per cent share of the womwnswear market, down from 12.6 per cent share at the beginning of the year, leading some analysts to comment that her move from Asda has not gone to plan.

Following their predecessors, Bostock and chief executive Stuart Rose are now gearing up for their first quarter of full responsibility and the Q3 period will take the chain through the critical Christmas spell, which may determine their futures.

Like-for-like sales were down 5.4 per cent in the 14 weeks to 9 July – the group’s seventh consecutive quarterly decline.

M&S refused to comment on the situation.
