Midlands Co-operative to close fashion and home stores

Midlands Co-operative has announced that it is to close its fashion and home department stores.

In a statement, the group explained that the stores had faced “significant and fundamental challenges” in recent years as a result of changes in the retailing sector and the growth of online shopping.

Midlands Co-operative said: “Whilst our other businesses have flourished, the Society has been incurring substantial losses from the Fashion & Home operation for more than a decade and in spite of sustained efforts to improve performance, the latest financial projections indicate a further decline with increasing losses in future years.”

Stores to close over the next six months include Chesterfield, Coalville, Derby, Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Stafford, West Bridgford, and Wigston.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

The group added that all customer orders and gift vouchers would be honoured, and customer enquires would continue to be handled by staff at Fashion & Home stores during the closure period.
