Midcounties Co-operative to acquire Harry Tuffins
The Midcounties Co-operative Society is to acquire Harry Tuffins, the family-owned supermarket and convenience store chain.
The society is purchasing the the ten-strong chain, which operates in Powys, Flintshire, Shropshire and Gloucestershire, to grow its portfolio of stores in its trading heartland.
Midcounties chief executive, Ben Reid, said: “As a member-owned society with values of democracy, openness, equality and social responsibility, we believe the fairer way we do business is an excellent match with the family ethos the company has long adhered to.”
The jobs of all 450 workers have been secured across the ten Harry Tuffins sites which include Churchstoke, Machynlleth, Knighton, Holywell, Craven Arms, Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Cleobury Mortimer, Lydney and Coleford.

The Midcounties Co-operative is the second largest independent co-operative in the UK with 9,000 staff spread across 450 sites. The society’s trading groups are food retail, travel, pharmacy, childcare nurseries and employee benefits.
