Microsoft cuts back store plans

Microsoft is curtailing its ambitious plans to open its own stores according to a report in Business Insider. The company had been considering opening a flagship store in London.

The software giant had been looking to take on Apple which has 300 stores worldwide. Microsoft has opened eight stores in the US with two more in the offing, and had planned to roll out more. However, Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, is reported to have put the plans on hold.

Plans for a Microsoft store in London had been announced as far back as February 2009. Apple has opened four stores in London and the store in Covent Garden is currently the largest in the world.
