Michael Wemms to chair BRC

House of Fraser chairman takes up new post
Michael Wemms, chairman of deparment store group House of Fraser, is to be the next chairman of the BRC.

He succeeds David Felwick, deputy chairman of the John Lewis Partnership, who has chaired the BRC since March 2002.
Wemms became chairman of House of Fraser in February 2001 after a long career with Tesco which saw him become retail director.
In June 2003 he was appointed a non-executive director of Coles Myer, Australia’s largest retailer.
Dr Kevin Hawkins, director general of the BRC, said: “I am delighted that Michael will be our next chairman. He has extensive experience of the departmental store, fashion and food retail markets at both strategic and operational level.
“This is exactly the right blend of skills and experience we need to help the BRC tackle the challenges which lie ahead.
“I would also like to thank David Felwick CBE for the invaluable contribution he has made to the BRC during his term of office, not least over the period between the departure of my predecessor as Director General in January and my arrival in April.”
