Michael Kors to enter wearables market with launch of smartwatch
Fashion brand Michael Kors will enter the wearables market this autumn by launching a new wearable technology accessories line.
The first item in the range will be the Michael Kors Access display smartwatch which is powered by Google’s Android Wear platform.
Unveiled at the Baselworld 2016 tradeshow, the smartwatch range features exclusive Michael Kors display faces, ‘glamorous’ versions for women and ‘sporty’ versions for men, and interchangeable leather and silicone wristbands.
“I’m in the business of making people’s lives easier through fashion,” said Michael Kors. “I thought, ‘Why can’t tech accessories be chic and glamorous?’ You wear them every day. After all, technology is impacting life more and more. It should reflect your personal taste as much as anything else, but it should also give you access to all the experiences that you want.”
Powered by Android Wear, the touchscreen display smartwatches also include social media updates, text and email alerts, app notifications and built-in fitness tracking as well as Google’s Smart Help and voice-activation.
John Idol, chairman and chief executive of Michael Kors, said: “Our brand is built on giving our customers what they want for their 24/7, fast-paced lifestyle. We know they’re busy and need to be connected. We’re now offering them a smartwatch that lets them have access to a world of glamour, escape and adventure.”
