Meadowhall shoppers get festive as footfall rises by 8%
The Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield has reported that shoppers are getting well and truly into the festive spirit this year, buying over 532,000 mince pies, eight tonnes of tinsel and almost 3 million presents for friends and family.
According to number crunchers at the shopping centre, which announced an 8% year-on-year footfall increase at the end of November, over 325,000 families will be pulling crackers, sending cards and tucking into Christmas dinners all purchased from the centre’s retailers.
Meadowhall centre director, Darren Pearce, credits the increase in footfall to a wide range of new stores introduced to the centre over the past year, including retailers such as Urban Outfitters, Cath Kidston, Armani Exchange, Lego and Carluccio’s as well as the £7 million newly refurbished Oasis Dining Quarter.
Pearce added: “We are proud to offer one of the most extensive and credible retail and food choices outside London, ensuring there is something for everyone, and confirming Meadowhall’s status as the region’s premier shopping centre. With over 8,000 people working in the centre during the festive period, we’re on hand and ready to support our Christmas shoppers as the Big Day approaches!”
