McArthurGlen reports record trading days in December

Designer outlet group McArthurGlen has reported sales growth of 11.6% and a footfall increase of 11.1% for the eight week period to 31 December 2011.

The group said it saw consistently strong trading throughout December culminating in two record breaking days on 27 and 28 December, where sales increased by 9.5%.

Henrik Madsen, managing director for Northern Europe at McArthurGlen, said: “An early shopper surge in November prompted an overall excellent festive trading performance throughout the entire Christmas period which culminated in two record trading days on  27 and 28 December. These results demonstrate our offer of savings of up to 60% on luxury, designer and high street brands, in a stylish, enhanced environment that combines shopping with leisure, is an attractive proposition for both shoppers and brands alike.”

Designer collections, accessories, perfumes and cosmetics were the biggest draw for shoppers with the categories seeing sales growth in excess of 56%, 44% and 30% respectively in December.

The group, which has seven outlet centres throughout the UK, saw 15 new stores open in its UK centres in the lead-up to Christmas including Billabong, Fiorelli, Hugo Boss, Jaeger, Jigsaw and The Kooples.
