McArthurGlen celebrates 20% rise in festive sales
Designer outlet operator McArthurGlen saw a 20% uplift in like-for-like sales at its UK outlets over the Christmas trading period boosted by strong sales of designer collections and accessories.
The group said it enjoyed strong festive sales in the period 17 to 30 December as customers rushed to buy discounted jewellery, perfume, cosmetics and designer items as last-minute Christmas gifts. The start of the Boxing Day sale also boosted trade with a 13% rise in year-on-year sales.
Henrik Madsen, managing director of McArthurGlen, said: “This Christmas again exceeded our expectations, delivering double-digit growth across the UK portfolio for the third consecutive year. Together with our strong fashion offering, Christmas sales were significantly boosted by shoppers buying presents for family and friends at up to 60% less.”
McArthurGlen operates seven UK outlet centres in Ashford, Bridgend, Cheshire Oaks, East Midlands, Livingston, Swindon and York. In the lead-up to Christmas it added 15 new stores, including Lulu Guinness, Joseph, Church’s, Pretty Green, Kurt Geiger, Reiss, Barbour, Timberland and UGG.
