McArthur Glen sees sales of designer fashion rise by 66% in August

Designer outlet group McArthurGlen saw sales of designer collections rise by 66% year on year in August across it seven UK centres.

The group, which has outlet centres in Ashford, Bridgend, Cheshire Oaks, East Midlands, Livingston, Swindon and York, said sales had been driven by the addition of four new fashion brands in its centres as well as by the unseasonably cool August which helped sales  of Autumn/Winter fashions.

Henrik Madsen, managing director for McArthurGlen Northern Europe, said: “Over the last six months we have introduced four new designer fashion brands to our UK portfolio – Gant, Guess, Reiss and Wolford. This strengthening of our fashion brand offer has played a key part in driving sales of designer collections up 66% this August.  The early arrival of Autumn weather has also driven August sales, with strong sales in Autumn/Winter fashion collections coming up to five weeks earlier than usual.”

McArthur Glen said accessories sold well with oversized handbags, ankle boots and stiletto shoes helping to achieve 19% uplift in sales during the month. The group also confirmed that sales of “back to school” had delivered a solid performance with children’s footwear sales across the UK’s seven centres increasing by 21% year-on-year.
