Mayoral selects Bluewater for first store outside of London

Premium Spanish childrenswear brand Mayoral has chosen the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent as the location for its first store outside of London.

Due to open on 17 January, the 1,537 sq ft store at the Lend Lease operated centre is Mayoral’s second store in the UK. Established 70 years ago, the retailer now has a presence in over 63 countries worldwide.

Elena Sirghi, director of Mayoral’s UK franchise, said: “The UK is an important new market for Mayoral, so selecting the right location for our expansion outside of London was key and Bluewater is perfect. It has significant appeal amongst affluent families and is very focused on its brand, which is a great complement to our own.”

Other recent signings at Bluewater include Victoria’s Secret, Reebok, Jack Wills, Cadenza and Lola and Grace.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Guy Thomas, head of retail leasing at Lend Lease, said: “The opening of Mayoral is a great addition to the line-up of international brands here at Bluewater and reflects the ongoing demand for premium retailers for space at Bluewater. The fact Mayoral selected Bluewater for its first store outside of London simply highlights the strength of our offer, whilst adding more choice for the large number of affluent families that dominate our catchment.”

The news follows a strong Christmas for Bluewater, led by the success of Black Friday weekend during which footfall was up by 7% on the Friday and Saturday, and the two weeks to 5 January 2014.

Over the final two weeks of Christmas, footfall was up by 4.3% compared to the same period in 2012/2013. ‘Mega Monday’ on 23 December marked the debut of midnight trading at Bluewater and was its busiest day of the pre-sales period with footfall exceeding 170,000.
