Matalan recruits new finance director

Second Asda executive joins fashion discounter

Matalan has appointed Phil Dutton, finance director of Asda stores, as retail finance director.
Dutton will join Matalan in September, and will replace Ian Smith, Matalan’s finance director next February.
Dutton’s joins his former Asda colleague Paul Mason, the former president of Asda Wal-Mart UK who was appointed Matalan chief executive earlier this year.
Both were involved in integrating Asda’s systems into parent company Wal-Mart following the acquisition of the UK supermarket group. Systems development is seen as a key priority for Matalan.
Smith will become a consultant to the board when he resigns as a director.
