Discount retailer aims to cut costs
Matalan has confirmed that it plans to make job cuts at head office and in stores as it seeks to control costs in the current tough retail environment.
The company, which employs almost 17,000 staff, has started a consultation process, but has said how many jobs are at risk.
The dicount retailer said in May that it would look for greater efficiencies in a toughening marketplace, after reporting an 8.8 per cent like-for-like fall in March and April.
A Matalan spokeswoman told the Press Association: “I can confirm that Matalan is carrying out a restructuring that will result in job losses. However, it is impossible to be specific until the consultation period is completed.”
