Marks & Spencer unveils the ‘Shwop Coat’

Marks & Spencer has launched the first garment made from old or unwanted clothing donated by customers as part of its Shwopping campaign.

The limited edition ladies ‘Shwop Coat’ is made from shwopped wool donated by customers in M&S stores or via its charity partner Oxfam.

Mark Sumner, M&S Plan A Expert, said: “The Shwop Coat marks a huge step forwards for creating a sustainable future for fashion. It’s also great for our customers who can not only see what shwopping their old and unwanted clothes can lead to, but also get their hands on a stylish coat that looks great but costs less.”

The Shwopping campaign, which launched in April, encourages M&S customers to donate an old item of clothing every time they purchase something new.  M&S said that since the launch over one million items had been donated in its stores across the UK. Each item donated is then re-sold in Oxfam, re-used or recycled.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Sumner continued: “Our Shwop coat is the perfect example of what is possible from Shwopping, and we really hope it will lead to more of our customers shwopping so we can make even more garments made from their old and unwanted clothes.”

With a retail price of £89, M&S said the cost is half of what it would be if made from virgin wool. The coat will go on sale in selected stores across the UK and online next week.
