Marks & Spencer to close Taiwan chain
8 July, 2008 | by Retail Bulletin
M&S is to close down its operation in Taiwan after joint venture fails to attract shoppers according to a report in The Daily Telegraph this morning.
Three Taiwanese stores will close in the next few weeks as M&S and its JV partner President Chain Store close down the business. An M&S spokesman confirmed the store closures but stressed that the closures were an ‘isolated’ incident and not part of a wider brief to close stores overseas. It is understood that Taiwanese shoppers prefer larger format stores rather than the 2000 sq m M&S store format.
