Marks & Spencer strengthens board with two new non-exec directors
Marks & Spencer has strengthened its board with the hiring of two new non-executive directors.
Tamara Ingram and Sapna Sood will both join the business on 21 May.
Ingram has an advertising, marketing and digital communications background and has held leadership roles at WPP. Prior to that, she worked with Saatchi and Saatchi where she was chief executive and chair. She is currently the non-executive chair of Wunderman Thompson and a non-executive director at Marsh MacLennan.
Sood is currently group director at Compass Group where she heads up the international clients and market development business. She has also been a non-executive director at Kering for the last four years, although her term will expire on 16 June.
In addition to these appointments, Marks & Spencer said that Katie Bickerstaffe has now started in her role of chief strategy and transformation director and will therefore step down from the board at the retailer’s AGM in July. In addition, Alison Brittain will retire as a director prior to the AGM.
Meanwhile, Eoin Tonge will join the board as chief financial officer on 8 June.
Marks & Spencer chairman Archie Norman said: “To support the transformation challenge at M&S we have built a very strong board with diverse and relevant operational experience who are closely engaged with the executive team. The appointment of Tamara and Sapna, in addition to Eoin joining the board as an executive director, will bring in fresh and diverse talent and two exceptionally smart new people.”
