Marks & Spencer invests in The Sports Edit

Marks & Spencer has invested in fast-growing activewear brand platform The Sports Edit.

Founded in 2015 by Nick Paulson-Ellis, the platform offers a range of popular brands in the premium sportswear, athleisure wear and yoga categories. as well as items from new and emerging brands.

The site will continue to be run independently by Paulson-Ellis following the investment, but will be supported in its growth by M&S.

The move marks a continuation of M&S’s strategic focus on activewear which has seen the retailer grow its Goodmove brand to be its biggest in-house womenswear brand in just two years.

M&S said it will benefit from The Sports Edit’s highly engaged customer base and  valuable learning opportunities, which will help grow the retailer’s ‘Brands at M&S’ platform.

Katie Bickerstaffe, chief operating officer at M&S, said: “Developing the ‘Brands at M&S’ platform is just one example of how we’re shaping the future of M&S. Investing in digital and growing brands is an important way to explore growth categories and ultimately build our offer so we’re relevant for our broad customer base in the future.

“Nick has created a brilliant activewear business and will continue to operate ‘The Sports Edit’ independently supported by this investment to scale and grow.”
