Marks & Spencer appoints Vodafone’s Andy Halford as non-exec director
Marks & Spencer has appointed Vodafone chief financial officer Andy Halford as a non-executive director.
Halford will join Marks & Spencer’s board on 1 January and will take up the role of chairman of the audit committee in June 2013, succeeding Jeremy Darroch who is retiring from the board. Darroch has been chairman of the audit committee since February 2006.
Having joined Vodafone in 1999, Halford became the group’s chief financial officer in 2005. Prior to Vodafone, he was chief financial officer of Verizon Wireless in the US and is now a member of the Board of Representatives of the Verizon Wireless partnership.
Commenting on the appointment, Robert Swannell, chairman of M&S said: “I am delighted to welcome Andy to the Board. As well as his finance background, he brings valuable international, consumer and digital experience and will be an excellent appointment as Chairman of the Audit Committee following Jeremy’s retirement from the Board next year.

Marks & Spencer also announced that Steve Holliday, chair of the renumeration committee, has agreed to stand for re-election to the board at the AGM in July 2013 for a further year until stepping down in 2014.
