Mark Price to become Trade Minister at Foreign Office and the Department for Business
Waitrose managing director Mark Price has been appointed as Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
Price, who is due to stand down from his position at Waitrose in the spring, will take up his new role in April.
The appointment follows the decision by Lord Maude to resign from government with effect from mid-March 2016 after a career of public service spanning over 30 years. As well as working in a variety of ministerial roles, since last May Lord Maude has driven the strategic refocusing of UK Trade and Investment.
For the interim period between Lord Maude’s resignation and Price taking up his appointment, the Baroness Anelay of St John’s DBE has become a Minister of State at the Department for Business Innovation and Skills. She will remain a Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Price will leave Waitrose in April after 33 years with the business. He will be succeeded as managing director of Waitrose by the supermarket’s retail director, Rob Collins.
