Maplin staff receive specialist drone flying training
Electronics retailer Maplin is providing its staff with specialist drone flying training to enable them to offer advice on flying techniques to customers.
The company is training a team of novice ‘droners’ to become experts in flying its state-of-the-art DJI Phantom 3 Advanced Quadcopter Drone.
The group, which is based in Maplin’s Rotherham head office, has been receiving training from the retailer’s drone expert, Russell Stephens.
Stephens has been teaching the group how to capture video footage and how to fly drones safely and within the CAA guidelines.
In 2014 the retailer sold over 10,000 drones as the products became popular Christmas gifts.
Henry Swift, brand communications director at Maplin, said: “Since we’ve started selling drones they’ve been flying off the shelves! We believe that Maplineers should be experts in their field, so we’ve literally taken them out of the store and onto the field.
“As well as promoting responsible drone flying, we want to help customers get the most out of this thrilling hobby, so we can offer advice on proper techniques as well as teaching some stunts.”
