Majestic Wine launches new multi-device e-commerce website

Majestic Wine has launched its next generation e-commerce website as it looks drive further growth in online sales.

The wine retailer’s new online presence includes device-optimised sites, an improved stock system reflecting local availability, and personal recommendations provided by Majestic’s team of over 800 wine experts.

Developed by e-commerce consultancy Javelin Group, the website runs on the Intershop 7 e-commerce platform and utilises SDL Fredhopper for search and navigation. Intershop and Javelin Group, which jointly supply both software and support, secured the project following a competitive tender process.

The new Majestic Wine site uses HTML 5 to optimise its site across all mobiles, tablets and desktops. It also provides optimal reading, navigation and check-out processes for the customer’s specific device, with one central system for the on-going process of managing site content.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

In May and June, Majestic asked its team of wine experts to make ‘If you like that, you’ll love….’ suggestions for products across the range. They gathered over 125,000 recommendations which have now been transferred to the website as the retailer looks to engage customers and drive incremental sales.

The site also uses advanced geographic mapping techniques to enable Majestic to balance supply and demand, and ensure compliance with licensing laws. The customer can select the closest or preferred store and be presented with the available range using near real time stock management.

Richard Weaver, e-commerce director at Majestic Wine, said: “We can now offer our customers a broader and more exciting product range than ever before. Personal recommendations from our wine experts are available online for the first time, and we’ve improved convenience by strengthening our click and collect offering and introducing PayPal payments. We are thrilled that the new site makes our market-leading, unique wine retail proposition shine online and it has been a pleasure to work with such a professional team at Javelin Group.”

Fraser Davidson, chief technology officer and director of technology services at Javelin Group added: “We are delighted to have delivered an innovative new website for Majestic Wine, which uses the best of new technologies to give customers an enhanced experience across all aspects of the site, and will help to drive growth for the business in the key area of online sales.”
