Majestic appoints managing director

Majestic has appointed John Colley to the new position of managing director of Majestic Wine Retail.

Due to take up his new role on 1 October, Colley was most recently chief executive of Holland based DIY chain, Praxis Netherlands. He has also previously held senior positions at Kingfisher, working as commercial and marketing director in B&Q and commercial director at Screwfix.

Majestic, which operates 211 stores and is the owner of online crowd funded wine retailer Naked Wines, said Colley will report directly to Majestic chief executive, Rowan Gormley, and will be responsible for managing all Majestic stores, including Calais.

Meanwhile, Majestic Commercial, Naked Wines and Lay and Wheeler will all continue to be run by separate managing directors.

In statement, Majestic said there will be no change to current strategy plans and a further update will be provided when the company announces its interim results on 16 November.
