Luxury hotel brand launches into retail space with new gift boutique at Hong Kong airport
The group behind the luxury Peninsula Hotels chain has opened a boutique within the passenger departure area at Hong Kong International Airport.
Part of the ‘I Love Hong Kong’ retail zone in the airport, the new Peninsula Boutique offers a curated collection of exclusive merchandise from The Peninsula Hotels including artisanal chocolates, cookies, Peninsula tea blends and a range of fine gifts.
“The Peninsula Hotels has a long history in serving travellers from all over the world with impeccable service, we are delighted to operate our own boutique at the travel hub of Hong Kong to offer customers a taste of The Peninsula,” said Julie Bourgeois, general manager of Peninsula Merchandising.
Following the renovation of the company’s flagship store at The Peninsula Hong Kong in November 2012, the new boutique features a design developed by international interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg which has had a long association with The Peninsula Hotels.
Inspired by travel, the 644 square-foot boutique has been created to resemble a trunk, featuring shelves and compartments fashioned from wood and leather which display the merchandise.
In addition to its signature chocolate items, the store also stocks artisanal collections created by Maître Chocolatier, Marijn Coertjens, who heads up ‘The Chocolate Room’ at The Peninsula Hong Kong.
“Everything is hand-made, only the finest natural ingredients are used, and we limit production to ensure freshness and flavour,” said Coertjens. “The chocolates I create are classic flavours with a twist. Presentation is also of paramount importance and I hope our customers will perceive each piece of my chocolate as a delightful indulgence.”
The new airport boutique also features a display of artisanal chocolates by Coertjens, which was only previously on show at the flagship boutique at The Peninsula Hong Kong.
The latest Peninsula Boutique is the first airport retail outlet managed solely by Peninsula Merchandising.
