Lush gives The Poetry Pharmacy a permanent space in its Oxford Street store
Following the success of a pop-up in London’s Soho, Lush is giving The Poetry Pharmacy a permanent location within its Oxford Street store.
Spanning 62 square feet, the space can be found on the shop’s first floor from 1 June.
Founded by poet Deborah Alma, The Poetry Pharmacy specialises in “poetry on prescription” to help with a variety of emotional ailments. Customers can browse poetic remedies in the form of products ranging from books to “Poemcetamol pills”. There will also be coffee and cake available in the Dispensary Coffee Shop.
Lush’s collaboration started after poetry lover Mark Constantine, co-founder and chief executive of Lush, got in touch with Alma after The Poetry Pharmacy was shortlisted in 2021 for an Independent Business Award in a competition run by small business champion Holly Tucker. Since then, poetry has featured in the Lush Spa, products and gift range.
Constantine and Alma are currently writing a book entitled The Poetry Business School which is coming out later this year and charts the journey to The Poetry Pharmacy opening its first London location.
Alma said: “My long term mission has been to bypass the gatekeepers and bring poetry to more people in playful and engaging ways; and I couldn’t have wished for a better place to do it. With the generous support of Lush, now poetry will be on the most famous shopping street in the world.”
