Lowry Outlet food festival attracts record 120,000 visitors

The Lowry Outlet Mall at Salford Quays attracted a record 120,000 visitors to its recent food festival which was held over three days from 2 to 4 May.

Now in its third year, the festival was the biggest yet with more than 100 artisan food producers and street food pop-up restaurants covering the entire area from the Lowry Outlet plaza and MediaCityUK Waterfront.

The festival featured celebrity cooking demonstrations from Paul Hollywood and Gok Wan, as well as a surprise visit from comedian Alan Carr, a cookery school for kids, and Cbeebies shows from Katy Ashworth and Mr Bloom.

Other activities included a ‘Chairoplane’ ride and a line-up of musical talent which featured Britain’s Got Talents’ Ella Shaw as well as performers from the Salford City College based on site at MediaCityUK.

Lowry Outlet said stores and restaurants benefited a 28% increase in footfall on last year’s festival period while sales rose by 18%.

Centre manager Helen Anderton said: “The events program at Lowry Outlet continues to drive customers to the destination, many of whom may not have visited before and have shown a direct and positive impact on the retailers and restaurants within the centre, we look forward to working with the other businesses within the area to continue to grow the visitor numbers throughout the year as we enhance our outlet offering further. “
