Louis de Bourgoing to retire from international role at WH Smith

Louis de Bourgoing, WH Smith’s international chairman and business development director, is to retire from the business next month.

De Bourgoing has worked with WH Smith for nine years. When he first joined the business, it had one overseas store in Paris but now has 315 shops around the world.

Following his retirement, he will still carry out some work with WH Smith on a consultancy basis.

Phil McNally, international managing director of WH Smith, said: “Louis has been instrumental in the international expansion of WH Smith; we now have over 315 WH Smith stores in 30 countries, not including the recent InMotion acquisition in North America. We would like to thank Louis for everything he has achieved during his time at WH Smith, he leaves behind a strong legacy.”

WH Smith said details of his successor will be announced in due course.
