Landsec to transform former Debenhams unit at St David’s into new outdoor space

Landsec has submitted plans to transform a former Debenhams unit at Cardiff’s St David’s shopping centre into a new outdoor space.

The company said a £17 million investment includes plans for 102,000 square foot square which will create new opportunities for brands while enhancing access to nature and play space. The space will also feature two new restaurants, smaller kiosk-style food units and a leisure space.

Landsec has also submitted plans for a £15 million expansion of its food court concept Trinity Kitchen at Trinity LeedsFeaturing a rotating line-up of food trucks and permanent eateries, the concept has welcomed over 800,000 visitors annually since it launched in 2013.

Under the new plans, an under-utilised retail space will be repurposed to deliver a 72,000 square foot multi-dimensional hospitality destination complete with a new outdoor terrace with views over Leeds.

Nik Porter, head of retail asset management at Landsec, said: “Trinity Leeds and St David’s Cardiff both continually outperform industry benchmarks for footfall and have occupancy rates over 94%.

“By enhancing the guest experience, we’ll increase footfall and dwell time which in turn will bring more brands to the centres, whilst also strengthening the performance of brands already in occupation.”

Earlier this summer, Landsec was granted planning permission for the second phase of its £45 million investment into the Gunwharf Quays outlet shopping destination.
