Krispy Kreme to open second London store
Doughnut retailer starts UK expansion
March 1 2004
Doughnut retailer Krispy Kreme is building on its successful launch at Harrods last year with a second London outlet.
Opening in Enfield in North London, the new outlet will be Krispy Kreme’s first stand-alone UK store, and will feature a ‘doughnut theatre’ layout, including a picture window for enthusiasts to watch the entire doughnut making process. It will also feature four ‘‘Hot Doughnuts Now’ neon lights as well as the UK’s first Krispy Kreme drive-through.
The building was formally occupied by restaurant Chiquito’s, and was selected for its high customer traffic and architectural match to Krispy Kreme’s requirements. Property agents Colliers CRE and Sandzer are scouting further UK sites, with Krispy Kreme aiming to open 25 stores over the next five years. Krispy Kreme has also secured a site for a 4,000 sq ft factory store in the London area, scheduled to open early in 2005
Don Henshall, managing director of Krispy Kreme UK, said: “We are very excited about the warm reception Krispy Kreme has enjoyed in the UK after our opening in Harrods and the opportunity to showcase our unique ‘doughnut theatre’ in our second UK location in Enfield.”
In the US, Krispy Kreme currently has more than 345 stores, as well as operating in Canada, Australia and Mexico. An estimated 7.5m Krispy Kreme doughnuts are made every day.
