Kate Spade to open flagship store in London

Kate Spade New York is to open a flagship store in London. The luxury fashion and accessories retailer has taken a lease on a 4,000 sq ft shop in the redevelopment of the former General Trading Company building in Chelsea.

The store is Kate Spade’s first permanent European store and other retailers in the Cadogan Estate development will include stores such as cashmere clothing brand Brora, perfumer Ormond Jayne and shoe designer Beatrix Ong. The Kate Spade store will open in September and carry its apparel range as well as accessories and lifestyle products.

Hugh Seaborn, chief executive of the Cadogan Estate, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Kate Spade New York to Chelsea and are confident that they will contribute to the continued success of this vibrant shopping area which is at the heart of the Estate.”

Kate Spade New York currently distributes to more than 400 stores worldwide, including 36 stores in the US. The New York fashion label made its UK debut in October 2010 with a month long tenure of a Covent Garden pop-up store.
