JYSK gets green light for Bulgarian distribution centre
Danish furniture retailer JYSK has been given the green light to begin construction of a new distribution centre near Sofia in Bulgaria.
Bulgaria’s deputy prime minister, Tomislav Donchev, was present when the contract was signed between JYSK and the state owned development company NCIZ. Minister of economy, Bozhidar Lukarski, also attended the signing ceremony.
JYSK’s Allan Kjærgaard said: “This underlines the importance of the project. Not only for JYSK but for Bulgaria and the country´s efforts to attract foreign investments as well.”
JYSK expects to invest approximately €100 million in building the 85,000 square metre facility.
The company currently operates distribution centres in Radomsko in Poland, Nassjö in Sweden and Uldum in Denmark. In 2015 JYSK finished an extension of the Nassjö centre and also plans to expand the Uldum centre in 2016 as it looks towards global expansion.
Kjærgaard added: “JYSK is a rapidly growing company. Especially concerning the number of countries where we are present. This makes it crucial for us to develop our distribution, making sure that both our stores and our customers get their deliveries on time. This is the reason for the construction of a new distribution center in Bulgaria, which in time will serve the whole Balkan area.”
Having opened its first store opened in Denmark in 1979, JYSK now has over 2,300 stores and 20,000 employees in 41 countries.
