Joules achieves strong Christmas sales

Joules, the lifestyle clothing brand, has reported that total retail sales climbed by 13.1% in the run-up to Christmas.

In the six weeks to 3 January, total revenue increased by 11.3% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, with growth across all channels.

The sales rise follows the relaunch of the brand’s e-commerce site in September and the opening of its 100th store.

Joules said the Christmas period saw strong growth in sales of gifting products for both genders, as the brand widened the breadth of its offer.

Colin Porter, Joules chief executive, said the company was focusing on long-term growth as a British lifestyle brand both at home and abroad. He added: “The brand’s strong performance over the Christmas period across product categories and channels reflects the quality and design of our products as well as the appeal of the Joules brand.”

The Christmas performance means total revenue rose by 17.4% year-on-year from 1 June 2015 to 3 January 2016. This reflects continued growth across all channels including the opening of new stores in Harrogate, Dublin, Sheffield Meadowhall, Birmingham Grand Central, and Milton Keynes.

Porter said: “We have successfully introduced new customers to the brand and invested significantly in our infrastructure, including online capabilities, to provide a strong platform for continued growth as an international lifestyle brand. The hard work that our team puts into surprising and delighting our customers is paying off and, the strength of our SS16 range and advance wholesale orders gives us confidence in the outlook for the rest of the financial year.”
