John Lewis wins award for internship scheme
Employee-owned department store group John Lewis has won a prestigious award for its internship scheme at the annual National Council for Work Experience Awards.
The retailer beat five organisations to take the Highly Commended Award in the Best Newcomer category, having launched its scheme less than two years ago.
The NCWE Awards received a record number of entries this year, with around 200 organisations from across the UK competing for a total of 28 awards. The judging panel represented the full internship process through a number of senior professionals, including specialists from Which? and Regent’s College.
Carole Donaldson, manager resourcing at John Lewis said: “We were delighted to be awarded the Highly Commended Award for our Industrial Placement scheme which is providing the business with some exceptional students at a key point in their education. We have seen previous students joining our Graduate scheme and achieving promotion in record time.”
Never Miss a Retail Update!Mike Hill, chief executive of the Higher Education Careers Services Unit, which operates the NCWE added: “We’re now in the ninth year of the NCWE Awards, so it’s good to see so many new companies entering as well as organisations that take part year after year. John Lewis is a well deserved winner, providing a shining example for other retailers to follow.”
The NCWE Awards recognise businesses from all sectors and sizes that provide exceptional student and graduate internships. This year’s sponsors include the AGR, Changeboard, GlaxoSmithKline, Centrica, Holiday Extras, CRCC Asia, PlaceNet and Intel.
