John Lewis weekly sales up 11.4% boosted by strong online sales

John Lewis enjoyed an 11.4% increase in sales in the week ending 21 January with sales were up every day across all buying directorates.

Sixteen branches recorded increases on the same week last year with Liverpool up 11%, Leicester up 8.2% and Norwich up 6.1%.

In the buying directorates, Electrical and Home Technology sales were up 22%, marking a return to form of late with small electrical products passing their full year stretch target. However, IT was the star performer with a 90% surge in sales.

In Home sales rose 5.8%, with all four buying groups up year-on-year boosted by a 7% increase in furniture sales.  Fashion sales rose 9.6%  with men’s brands standing out at 33% up as some keys areas started to sell spring ranges in volume.

Johnlewis.com had a strong week with sales up 47% boosted by a 71% increase in online fashion sales.  Home sales rose 34% and saw their second highest growth in traffic for the year with an improvement on all key measurables.
