John Lewis weekly sales rise 8.9%
John Lewis enjoyed a sales rise of 8.9% in the week ending 28 January.
The increase was due largely to growth of 19.2% in sales of electrical and home technology products as the retailer experienced continued demand for mobile devices such as tablets and notebooks.
Fashion sales were up 5.2% helped by strong sales of beauty products and accessories, while Home sales grew by 4.5% as the retailer saw an increase in demand for beds.
The best performing stores were Croydon, Leicester and Swindon where sales rose 11.9%, 9% and 6.8% respectively. Online sales grew by 42%.
Commenting on the figures, Andy Street John Lewis managing director, said: “Ours remains a ‘bricks and clicks’ story. Johnlewis.com’s performance reflected continued momentum in electricals and fashion as well as increases in bed linen, china and particularly ‘home office’.
“The continuing roll out of Click & collect to our stores saw a 99% increase last week against last year – further establishing our position as a leader and innovator in multi-channel retailing.”
