John Lewis weekly sales jump 10%
Department store chain John Lewis has revealed that sales leapt more than 10% last week as customers bought their Christmas gifts and decorations.
Sales rose to £133.1 million in the week to 17 December, the highest weekly level in the company’s history, and up from the record achieved in the previous week of £123.5 million.
Toys, electronics and home accessories all sold well during the week and the arrival of colder weather boosted sales of winter coats.
Andy Street, managing director of John Lewis, said: “It is without doubt a tough time for many families at this time of year. The fact that we have achieved another record week speaks volumes for John Lewis customers understanding that we will always honour our pledge to be ‘never knowingly undersold’.”
